In 1960, Hugh Hefner hired Alberto Vargas to paint foldout nudes for Playboy. At the age of 64, Vargas began a new career that would finally give him the respect and financial security he merited. He worked for Playboy for 16 years, during which time he produced 152 paintings, and many of them were masterpieces. He found it almost physically impossible to paint a Playboy image with full-frontal nudity to depict his interpretation of sensuality that was always subtle yet striking but never blatant. Click on each image to enlarge.
